Called to Serve

This Sunday afternoon, we will celebrate an important milestone in the life of Kirk Anderson and in the life of Grace Presbyterian Church. At 3:00 p.m., Kirk will be commissioned as a Commissioned Ruling Elder to serve our congregation.

Kirk grew up at Grace, and his commissioning confirms the call to ministry that he has been discerning and already living out among us. We have witnessed that call through his faithful service to the youth of our congregation and community, his care for the members of Grace, and his commitment to the mission and ministry of the church. This service will affirm the work God has been doing in Kirk’s life and recognize the gifts God has given him for ministry.

Kirk’s commissioning also marks a milestone for our congregation. The distinction between his current ministry and his new role might seem like a formality, but it is much more than that. Through the prayerful discernment of Kirk, our congregation, and the Presbytery, he is being called and commissioned to serve Grace in a new pastoral role.

Kirk will continue his ministry with our youth and his service throughout our congregation and community. As a Commissioned Ruling Elder, he will also be called to preach and teach, lead worship, share the sacraments, and provide pastoral care. We will have the blessing of watching his ministry continue to grow as he shares these gifts among us.

It has been a joy for me to work alongside Kirk during this past year. He has been far more than a colleague. He has helped me learn the history of Grace and come to know the families and stories that have shaped this congregation. He has modeled faithful discipleship and generously shared his faith, wisdom, and trust with me. I am grateful for his leadership and friendship, and I look forward to continuing to serve beside him with energy, intelligence, imagination, and love.

I hope you will join us this Sunday at 3:00 p.m. for this special Commissioning Service. Together, we will celebrate Kirk’s call, promise our support for his ministry, and give thanks for the work God continues to do in his life, in our lives, and in the life of Grace Presbyterian Church.
