November Sunday Morning Preaching Schedule

November 5

On this final Sunday of our Let it Shine series Catherine Neelly Burton preaches from Matthew 5:13-16.  This is a full morning with communion, all saints remembrances, and our ukulele choir plays in both services. In addition all are invited to present pledge cards during worship.

Sunday Morning Schedule: November 2017

9 am           Worship in the Great Room

10 am         Education and Fellowship

11 am         Worship in the Sanctuary

Worship at 9 am is in the Great Room and is led musically by our band. The style is less formal than the 11 am service. The 11 am service is in the Sanctuary and is led musically by our choirs.  The style is more traditional.

Children and Youth

  • Children ages 0-Pre-K

A nursery is available all morning from 8:50 am – 12:15 pm.  From 10 – 10:45 am, Colissa Fry leads a Sunday School lesson for these children.

  • Kindergarten – 2nd Grade

Kindergarten – 2nd grade meets in room B10 (in the basement) also known as the ‘Foundation Station.’

  • 3rd – 5th Grades

3rd, 4th, and 5th graders meet in Tower Room (on the 2nd floor).

  • Youth

6-8th graders meet in the Youth Center (downstairs)

9-12th graders meet in the Youth Center (downstairs)

Youth and Mental Health: November 5

Meets in Room 103

Every year families in our church and connected to our church have teenagers who experience mental health crises. Some are short term, some longer.  Some involve outside help; others are managed at home. One of the biggest challenges is how to talk about this and where to turn for help.  Whether or not you live with a teenager, you are part of a church with teenagers, and this class will offer you insight into these young people.

Do you want to know more about the Bible but don’t know where to start?  All fall we offer a Bible 101 class.  Each small unit (four weeks for the second unit) provides an entrance into scripture.  If you’ve studied the Bible before you’ll enjoy the refresher.

Jennifer Snook and Cindy Dethloff team up for another Love and Logic class.  This time the focus is “Teens, Tots, and Technology.”  This class is ideal for parents, grandparents, or anyone else who spends time with children and youth.

Love and Logic Parenting

Meets in Room 103

Love and Logic Parenting prepares Children for the real world using models and teaching the Four Steps to Responsibility.  In the upcoming workshops we will focus on Teens/Tots & Technology and some techniques to use to keep kids safe with screens.

As parents we sometimes run out of answers and out of breath trying to communicate with our kids.  This way of talking to children will give you specific answers and actions for some the difficult moments in child-rearing.  These simple techniques are effective with all children, from toddler to teens.  It will change your life and the lives of your children.  Plan to meet with us December 3 in Room 103 at 10 am-10:45 am.  Jennifer Snook and Cindy Dethloff teach this class.  Questions?  Contact Jennifer, 684-5215.

On Sunday morning, October 8, the Wichita Prairie Fire Marathon runs by Grace. The 9 am worship service gathers on the lawn to encourage runners. The 11 am worship service remains in the sanctuary.  There is no Sunday School on this day.

Faithful Families  – Meets in the Great Room

This intergenerational class equips families to pray, read scripture, and worship God together at home. Whether you’re a family of one or family of six, there’s something for you. If you’re a parent, your children and youth attend this class instead of individual classes, and you will enjoy the time together.

This follow-up class for adults who participated in the three weeks of Faithful Families gives us the chance to talk about how it worked to incorporate (or try to incorporate) the practices of prayer, scripture and worship at home. Did something work well? We’d love to hear.  Was something unrealistic or a disaster?  Maybe someone else has a better solution.

Sunday Morning Preaching Schedule: October 2017

October 1

This is World Communion Sunday. We celebrate the Lord’s Supper at both worship services and receive the PCUSA Peace and Global Witness offering. Catherine Neelly Burton preaches, and we continue our series on discipleship.  Our focus for the day is ‘Disciples Love,’ and we look at scripture from Matthew and I John.

October 8

This is Prairie Fire Marathon Sunday.  We have 9 am worship on the lawn and 11 am worship in the sanctuary.  The 9 am worship is informal and involves cheering and clapping. The 11 am worship is a traditional service.  Catherine Neelly Burton preaches. The theme for the day is ‘Disciples Witness.’

October 15

This is the first week of our Stewardship Emphasis Season.  Our theme for Stewardship is ‘Let it Shine.’  Catherine Neelly Burton preaches from Isaiah 55.

October 22

We continue with our theme ‘Let it Shine.’  Catherine Neelly Burton preaches on the parable of the Wedding Banquet.

October 29

On this third Sunday of stewardship season Martin Burch preaches.
