Deep Roots

Dear Grace Community,

The Session is excited to share with you the Deep Roots Capital Campaign.  For over a year, groups within our congregation have studied our facilities to consider how we might continue to use our space most effectively for our congregation and the community. This summer, the Session began to study the data provided by these groups, and the result of this is the Deep Roots Campaign.

2018 is our 70th year worshiping at the corner of Bleckley and Douglas. Our roots are deep here. We believe that God calls us to do ministry here and from this place. We believe that God will continue to do new things in and through our congregation. This campaign will strengthen our facilities so that our ministries can grow, and so that we can continue to share God’s love both within the walls of the church and in the community.

On Sunday, September 16, we share more about the Deep Roots Campaign in worship. It is a $300,000 campaign with pledges made for up to three years. We have six open houses set-up for you to come and learn more about Deep Roots. Please plan to attend one.

In Christ,

Catherine Neelly Burton

Morning Worship

Bus Tickets and Morning Worship: September 14

Each month Grace distributes bus tickets to people in our community.  This happens on the 15th of the month, or if the 15th is on a weekend we meet the Friday before.  Volunteers and those receiving tickets begin to gather around 6:30 am in the Grace Alcove. Guests are greeted with smiles, coffee, water, and a place to sit. Tickets are distributed at 7:50 am.

We can always use volunteers to help with set-up, clean-up, and ticket distribution.  Want to help?  Contact Kirk Anderson, kirk@mygpc.org or 684-5215.

Yellow Bag Sundays

Yellow Bag Sundays: September

Each month on the first Sunday you’re encouraged to take home a re-usable yellow grocery bag, put some non-perishable items in it, and bring it back the next week, or soon thereafter. In September our contributions go to the Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church food pantry.  All non-perishable food items are welcome.

Refugee Backpack Party: The Children Thank You

Approximately three hundred children came to First Presbyterian on Saturday, August 11, and left with new backpacks filled with needed supplies, full tummies and perhaps some new friends. Scores of volunteers coordinated to provide the volumes of paper, pens, and more, and to serve lunch,  transport clients, and shepherd them through the maze.

Grace was vital in this ecumenical effort and the organizers were very thankful for our extended assistance. Many of you filled yellow bags and donated $375 to help buy what was still needed. Economy Corner generously contributed $300.  Volunteers toted the bags to First Presbyterian and enthusiastically helped with set up, transportation and wherever they were needed that day.

THANK YOU for caring and loving these children.

Messy Church

Messy Church: September 9

Messy Church returns in September!

Messy Church is our once a month interactive worship experience that always ends with free dinner.  This year Messy Church happens on the second Sunday of the month at 4:30 pm.  Messy Church is designed with children 8 and under in mind, BUT people of all ages are welcome.  It’s a little different each month, but there is always singing, playing, laughing, praying, and Bible story telling.  We wrap up with dinner around 5:30 pm.
