It’s time to offer a blessing to Jacob’s Learning Ladder Families.  Each spring we set aside a couple of days and greet families with coffee and muffins when they come to drop-off their children. This small gesture goes a long way in extending care from our congregation to families, and we need your help.  Sign up at the church to either bake muffins (drop them off at Grace on May 1) or to be here to greet and share.

On the first Sunday of each month, you’re encouraged to take home a re-usable yellow grocery bag, put some non-perishable items in it, and bring it back the next week, or soon thereafter.  This month our contributions go to the food pantry at Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church.  Consider bringing proteins such as canned meat and beans.

On Sunday, April 24, we gather for One Worship Service at 10 am in the Great Room. On this day, children of the church lead us in worship.

Catherine preaches, but children serve as the liturgists and encourage us to consider God’s promises. Jennifer Snook, our Director of Children’s Ministries has worked with our children, their Sunday School teachers, and their families for weeks to prepare for this day. Your presence in worship is one way you can support children and families in our congregation.

On April 14, we celebrated another wonderful year of the Grace Tutoring Program.

This ministry started 18 years ago and continues to be strong. Twice a week for about 10 weeks in the fall and 10 weeks in the spring, students from Hyde Elementary come to Grace after school for tutoring in reading. A few hours a week of reading one-on-one with an adult makes an incredible difference for a child. Students are tested at the beginning of the year and at the end, and it’s always a joy to see how much progress is made.

This program started 18 years ago, and we are proud that it has helped hundreds of students and given many adults the chance to serve.

It is run entirely by volunteers.  Anne Woolsey directs the program, and Jane Taylor is her assistant. The tutors this year (many of whom are pictured) were: Don Allison, Ruth Chase, Carol Darnell, Jim Grannis, Carolyn Kindrick, Lib Hooper, Heidi Tjaden, Jan Horner, Joyce Lewis, Shirley Hobson, Esther Cummins, and Bill Woolf. There were also many substitutes who offered their time.

Consider becoming a tutor in the fall of 2016. Or if you know someone who might enjoy this ministry, tell them about it. Tutors are not required to be members of Grace.  All tutors go through background checks and training.

We were blessed to hear from several preachers during Catherine’s maternity leave. Is there a sermon you particularly enjoyed and want to hear again?  Or did you miss a week of worship, and do you want to hear what you missed?

Audio recordings of sermons are posted to our website by Monday of each week  You may find them at the top of the homepage, or by visiting the Sermons Page.
