March Book Club

Scott Randle, a longtime Grace member, is not around Grace much these days, and that’s a good thing.  About a decade ago, Scott discerned a call to learn more about ministry, specifically preaching.  What began as occasional pulpit supply led to online seminary classes and more church leadership.  Watch the video below to hear more from him and to learn what he’s up to now (all the while still working full-time as an engineer).

Lent-2023

Relent. This word has multiple definitions.  This Lent our theme is Re Lent, leaning on the definition that means to cease resistance.  On Ash Wednesday, we read from Joel 2, where the prophet tells the people that the Lord says, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning…Return to the Lord, your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love, and relents from punishment.”

God, our gracious and merciful God, calls us to return, to stop resisting, and to come home.  That is our call this Lent, to return to God.

Each week in Lent, we focus on scripture from the book of Matthew.  Each week ties to a “Re” word.  For instance, in the first week, we heard about forgiveness in Matthew 18, and we considered the word repent.

Lent in Plain Sight

This Lent, you’re invited to join a group to read and reflect together on the book Lent in Plain Sight by Jill Duffield.  Each Lent, Grace sends every church household a daily devotional, and we do so this year. The Joy of Salvation is a short devotional meant for individual or home use.

Lent in Plain Sight is an additional invitation to read and reflect, this time in a group.  There are daily readings and questions to be read and considered individually, and then we discuss them as a group once a week.  The two options for this are:

  • Thursdays at 6:30 am at Coffee Daze in College Hill.
    • Coffee Daze is located at 3236 E Douglas Ave Suite 100, Wichita, KS.

This begins on Thursday, March 2, and meets for 6 weeks.  Come to the March 2 gathering, having completed the week one readings.

  • Wednesdays at Noon at Grace Presbyterian
    • Bring a bag lunch and join Catherine Neelly Burton for discussion.

This begins on Wednesday, March 1, and meets for six weeks. Come to the March 1 gathering, having completed the week one readings.

Books may be purchased at Grace for $10, or you may provide your own.
