The Presbytery of Southern Kansas is going back to Cuba in 2020.  The next trip is planned for May 25-June 1.  The hope is to take six-eight people.

The paperwork process for Cuba travel is laborious, so the participant list must be set soon. If you are interested, contact Pastor Jeremiah Lange from the Marion Presbyterian Church.

Darcy Eads, Pam Head, and Capri Zimmerman from Grace have all been to Cuba with the presbytery and are glad to talk with people. You may get their contact info from the church office. This is an exciting opportunity as our presbytery and congregation consider how God is calling us to partner with Presbyterians in Cuba.

Imagine having no car payment or house payment; imagine having an emergency fund for the unexpected; imagine having vacations paid for before you take them. You don’t have to imagine it; plan for it!

Financial Peace University (FPU) is that plan! It teaches God’s ways of handling money. Through video teaching, class discussions and interactive small group activities, FPU presents biblical, practical steps to get from where you are to where you’ve dreamed you could be. You’ll learn how to get rid of debt, manage your money, spend and save wisely, and much more! Attend Financial Peace University, Dave Ramsey’s 9-week financial seminar.

The class meets Wednesdays from 6:30-8 pm, starting March 4 in the Parlor. The cost is $99 per family and child care is provided (registration required). Want to register or know more? You can call Martin Burch at 684-5215 or go to www.fpu.com/1113560.

ashLent begins with Ash Wednesday on February 26.  This year we again have two opportunities for Ash Wednesday worship.

The first is Ashes On the Go at Watermark Books.  From 7-9 am Pastor Catherine Neelly Burton is at Watermark to mark you with ashes as you start your day.  It’s a come and go time, though you’re welcome to get breakfast and stay for a while.

At 7 pm we gather in the Grace Great Room for an Ash Wednesday service that includes the imposition of ashes, Holy Communion, and music from our choir.

Save the date! Kids Lead Sunday is February 23 at 10 am in the Great Room.  Sunday School classes are working on their contributions to the worship service.  That means we need all of you to offer your ideas and input.  This year we plan on explaining “Why Church?” from the perspective of what we do in worship.  Worship can be really exciting for kids and adults, but it can also feel long and boring and pointless to kids.  At Grace, we want to make worship and Sunday School the best hour of your kids’ week.

Would you consider partnering with us to make Kids Lead Sunday a meaningful way our kids can give back to Grace?  The best way to do this is to talk with your child about what they like and what they are remembering about Sunday School.  Be excited about your own course of faith study.  And bring your kids on Sundays at 10 am from now until February 23.  The kids’ classrooms are thinking about and practicing ways they can participate in Kids Lead Sunday.  It’s always a fun service to witness.  Thanks for letting us know your amazing kids here at Grace,

~Jennifer Snook

Each month on the first Sunday you’re encouraged to take home a re-usable yellow grocery bag, put some non-perishable items in it, and bring it back the next week, or soon thereafter.  In February our contributions go to the food pantry at the Center Church.  This is the building that used to be Mt. Vernon Presbyterian.  The Center Church continues to operate the food pantry.  Consider bringing cereal and canned vegetables.
