Deep Roots Updates

Deep RootsWe continue with our Deep Roots facility updates, and we remain grateful for your faithfulness in giving.  We have replaced and added high definition surveillance cameras. There are still a few to add, but this project is moving toward completion. The new cameras involve new wiring, so if you’ve been at Grace and seen a person with his head up in the ceiling tiles, that’s our tech man running cables.

You may have noticed new devices on the main doors as well as on doors in and around Jacob’s Learning Ladder. These are the controlled access panels. We are not using them exclusively, but we are getting closer to providing controlled access to the building.

This work is being ushered in by a faithful team of people. We give thanks for Jim Grannis, Ron Spangenberg, Laura Daniel, Kim Alexander, Bill Woolf, staff members Martin Burch and Kirk Anderson, and Grace friend Chuck Newman.

Yellow Bag Sundays

Yellow Bag Sundays: May 2019

Each month on the first Sunday you’re encouraged to take home a re-usable yellow grocery bag, put some non-perishable items in it, and bring it back the next week, or soon thereafter.  In May, our offering is split between two places.

Grace youth, Audrey Farrell, and the youth group are collecting items for the Wichita Children’s Home. This is part of a project Audrey and another Maize High School student initiated. The goals are to gather resources for the Children’s Home and to raise awareness about children in emergency situations in our area.  Consider donating deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, tampons, pads, lice ice, nail care items, travel size hygiene supplies, combs, and brushes.

In addition, the Chase Community Presbyterian Church (where Scott Randle preaches monthly) is starting a new community food pantry. Consider bringing non-perishables like canned fruits and meats for them.

Bright Lights!

We are in the process of replacing all of the Grace fluorescent light fixtures with LEDs. The Board of Trustees received a bid for $12,400 to purchase the LEDs and the kits to make the change. The Trustees approved using money from the Facilities Endowment for this purpose. The return on investment should be within 12 months. Our daytime custodian, Tim Frye, has worked diligently to make the updates.

rakes

Wheelbarrows and Rakes Needed: Wednesday, April 17

The mulch is coming! Periodically we replenish the mulch on our playground. This means that giant load of mulch is dropped off in the north parking lot then hauled barrow by barrow to the playground where it is dropped off and spread.

This year we have a team of students from East High coming to help with the work. Every spring East students spend a day serving with ‘Aces in the Community,’ and we’re excited that they’re serving here. We know they are excellent mulch-movers and spreaders, but we need to borrow some equipment from you. If you have a wheelbarrow or sturdy metal rake we can borrow, please mark your name on it and drop it by the church by Wednesday, April 17. Mulch spreading day is Thursday, April 18. Thanks!

Holy Week 2019

holy weekHoly Week begins with Palm Sunday on April 14.  Join us for morning worship at either 9 and 11 am as we experience the story of Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem.

On Thursday, April 18, we gather for Maundy Thursday worship at 7 pm in the Grace Sanctuary.  We hear the story of Jesus’ last supper with his disciples, his betrayal, and arrest, and we prepare ourselves for Good Friday.  This is a Tenebrae service which includes the Lord’s Supper.

Friday, April 19, is Good Friday.  We worship at noon in the Grace Sanctuary.  During the 30 minute service we worship through scripture and song.

Sunday, April 21, is Easter, and we celebrate our risen Lord!  We worship at 9 and 11 am.  Between services all are invited to adorn the Easter cross on the front lawn with flowers.
