Peace and Global Witness Offering: October 7

On Sunday, October 7, we celebrate World Communion Sunday.  Along with siblings in faith around the globe we share the Lord’s Supper in worship.  We also receive the Peace and Global Witness Offering.  This offering is one of the PCUSA offerings we receive every year.  Fifty percent of the received offering goes to the national church for peacemaking efforts around the globe. Twenty-five percent goes to the Presbytery of Southern Kansas for peacemaking efforts in the region. The Grace Mission Distribution Team determines how to use the remaining 25%.

This year the Mission Distribution Team designates our percentage for the Good Neighboring Movement in the Wichita South Central (SoCe) Neighborhood.  They describe themselves this way:

The Neighboring Movement by SoCe Life researches, practices and teaches about neighboring. We practice good neighboring in the South Central (SoCe) neighborhood of Wichita, KS. Our dream is for a Neighboring Movement to sweep the nation in a way that strengthens communities, connects individuals, and revitalizes churches.

Prairie Fire Marathon and Bluegrass Worship on the Lawn: Sunday, October 14

Sunday, October 14, is the Prairie Fire Marathon and Half Marathon.  For the sixth year in a row runners race past Grace starting around 8 am. We sit on the lawn to cheer for them as they zoom down Douglas.  Cheering, waving, and clapping for the runners is joyful, particularly when you can see the difference the encouragement makes for a person.  Bring a chair or plan to stand.  Our presence on the lawn is an important witness to the community.

At 10 am we gather under a tent on the east lawn by Battin Street for one worship service with Bluegrass Music. Don’t miss this fun Sunday!

Messy Church: October 14

Messy Church is back again in October.  It was joyful to worship together in September, and we can’t wait to do it again on October 14.

Messy Church is our once a month interactive worship experience that always ends with free dinner.  This year Messy Church happens on the second Sunday of the month at 4:30 pm.  Messy Church is designed with children 8 and under in mind, BUT people of all ages are welcome.  It’s a little different each month, but there is always singing, playing, laughing, praying, and Bible story telling.  We wrap up with dinner around 5:30 pm.

Deep Roots

Dear Grace Community,

The Session is excited to share with you the Deep Roots Capital Campaign.  For over a year, groups within our congregation have studied our facilities to consider how we might continue to use our space most effectively for our congregation and the community. This summer, the Session began to study the data provided by these groups, and the result of this is the Deep Roots Campaign.

2018 is our 70th year worshiping at the corner of Bleckley and Douglas. Our roots are deep here. We believe that God calls us to do ministry here and from this place. We believe that God will continue to do new things in and through our congregation. This campaign will strengthen our facilities so that our ministries can grow, and so that we can continue to share God’s love both within the walls of the church and in the community.

On Sunday, September 16, we share more about the Deep Roots Campaign in worship. It is a $300,000 campaign with pledges made for up to three years. We have six open houses set-up for you to come and learn more about Deep Roots. Please plan to attend one.

Open Houses

All open houses start in the Grace Parlor and involve tours throughout the church building.  The open houses last from 30 minutes to an hour.

Bus Tickets and Morning Worship: September 14

Each month Grace distributes bus tickets to people in our community.  This happens on the 15th of the month, or if the 15th is on a weekend we meet the Friday before.  Volunteers and those receiving tickets begin to gather around 6:30 am in the Grace Alcove. Guests are greeted with smiles, coffee, water, and a place to sit. Tickets are distributed at 7:50 am.
