Marriage Enrichment

prepare-enrich

“Marriage is beautiful and complex: it is fluid and changes with time.”Prepare Enrich

In our church we value and honor marriage. Many Grace members are married. Some of these marriages are strong, others struggle, and all need attention. There are a variety of resources for strengthening marriages, and now Grace is making one readily available.

The resource is called Prepare/Enrich. It’s used for couples preparing for marriage and for married couples looking to enrich their relationships. Prepare/Enrich is an assessment designed to help couples explore and strengthen their relationships. Couples take an assessment individually online. Then they sit down with a trained facilitator for one hour to go over the assessment.

The facilitator guides the couple in discovering areas of strength and challenge in their relationships. For many couples this opens up communication in healthy and positive ways. The facilitator is not a marriage counselor. If after Prepare/Enrich a couple wants to pursue counseling, the facilitator or Catherine Neelly Burton can recommend counselors.

We have three trained Prepare/Enrich facilitators in our congregation, the Rev. Jennifer Snook, Dr. Joyce Crane, and Alan Crane. Anyone interested in going through this process may contact one of them or Catherine Neelly Burton. The cost is $200.  If cost is prohibitive, please speak with Catherine, 684-5215.

Morning Worship

Bus Tickets and Morning Worship: July 14

Each month Grace distributes bus tickets to people in our community.  This happens on the 15th of the month, or if the 15th is a weekend we meet the Friday before.  Volunteers and those receiving tickets begin to gather around 6:30 am in the Grace Alcove. Guests are greeted with smiles, coffee, water, and a place to sit. Tickets are distributed at 7:50 am.

We invite all guests to a brief worship service with communion in the Great Room at 7:35 am.

We can always use volunteers to help with set-up, clean-up, and ticket distribution.  Want to help?  Contact Kirk Anderson, kirk@mygpc.org or 684-5215.

Yellow Bag Sundays

Yellow Bag Sundays: School Supplies for Refugee Students

Every month we encourage you to take home a reusable yellow grocery bag, fill it up, and bring it back.  Most months we ask you to bring food for the pantry at Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church.  In July we’re asking you to bring school supplies for students in the Wichita refugee community.

Grace is partnering with First Presbyterian in this endeavor. On August 12 from 9:30 am-2:30 pm refugee families will visit First Presbyterian to pick up supplies they need for the coming year.  Our contributions will fill the backpacks for the students.

Our goal is to fill 500 backpacks.  Some of the most needed items are: scissors, calculators (small solar powered for elementary and scientific calculators for high school), crayons, markers, pencils, erasers, notebook paper, folders, notebooks, and tissues.  Complete lists of school supplies will be posted at Walmart, Walgreens, etc.

You may buy one of each item or buy in bulk and bring in multiples of the same item. All contributions are welcome! If you don’t want to shop you may give the Refugee team some money to shop for you.

The school supply drive goes all month.  Bring your supplies back to GPraceby the end of July.

Also, look for sign-ups and volunteer with the event on August 12!

Summer Choir – July 9 and 16, 2017

All are invited to join together to sing in Summer Choir for the 11 am service on Sundays, July 9 and 16, 2017.

We meet in the choir loft at 10 am to learn the music and then sing for the service.  You can come for both Sundays or just one.  We welcome a variety of ages for this, too, so it might be a great opportunity for your family to come sing!

If you have questions, you can call Donna at the church or email donna@mygpc.org.  Come join your voice in song to our God!

Flat Jesus: Take Jesus with You

flat JesusWill you be out of town on a Sunday this summer? Want to stay connected to Grace in a lighthearted way?  Take “Flat Jesus” with you wherever you go.

Jennifer Snook has a set of Flat Jesus’ ready to share. The idea is that you take one of these images of Jesus with you, take a picture, and send it back to us. We might share your picture in worship or on our social media sites.

Flat Jesus is a fun way to stay connected as you travel with Jesus, whether you go to Mozambique or Mulvane.
