We have a new Women’s Ministry at Grace, and all women are invited.

This ministry encompasses different aspects of life at Grace including: a book group, fellowship events, service, and retreats.  Capri Zimmerman is working with Catherine Neelly Burton to get this started and would love to hear from you if you’re interested.  Email her at prizslp@gmail.com.

Upcoming Events and Dates are:

  • Book Group – 4th Tuesday of the Month – March – June – 7 pm at Grace

The group reads For the Love: Fighting for Grace in a World of Impossible Standards by Jen Hatmaker.  The book is broken in to four sections, and the group meets four times. The first gathering is Tuesday, March 28, at 7pm at Grace.  Get a copy of the book and read the first section before the first gathering.

  • April 1 – Craft and Coffee at Grace – 10 am in the Parlor – $10 cost

Chris Alexander leads us in making spring wreaths. Enjoy crafts, conversations, coffee, and snacks.  Signups are needed, and there is a list on the women’s ministry board in the church narthex, or contact Catherine Neelly Burton, Catherine@mygpc.org.

  • April 28-29 – Westminster Woods Women’s Retreat

Westminster Woods Camp is holding a women’s retreat April 28-29.  You may go for both days or just Saturday. Pick up information on the women’s ministry bulletin board in the church narthex area or contact Capri Zimmerman, prizslp@gmail.com. Registration is on your own, not as a group, but we can car pool.

Gardeners are needed to help God beautify our grounds. The gardening team works most Thursday mornings during the summer from 8 – 11 am, planting flowers, weeding, watering, trimming shrubs, picking up leaves and maintaining the gardens and parking areas.

While we currently have a small core of dedicated workers, we need four additional helpers. Youth are welcome. No heavy lifting or special skill required, just a desire to help and be with like-minded people.

You can help whenever you are available; you do not need to work every time. Contact Don Allison, 686-0041 or dallison15@cox.net for information.

We also have three small areas that families or individuals can adopt and maintain. These areas can be worked on at any time.

On February 28, my husband David and I had the pleasure to host a special dinner at our house coordinated by the Beyond Tolerance organization.

Seven guests from diverse religious backgrounds came together for a meal and a moderated discussion about their faith and personal beliefs. It was chance to learn from those who differ from ourselves, and an opportunity for deeper reflection on those perspectives that unite us as humans.

The Beyond Tolerance organization coordinates a number of events each year, including this annual dialogue dinner. This was a valuable experience to help build bridges in the community, and to develop a greater empathy for people that I might not often interact with. I’m thankful God provided me with this growth experience.

We at Grace continue to find ways to assist and encourage our new refugee neighbors who come to Wichita under the auspices of the International Rescue Committee, IRC.

This winter some of the warm coats you donated to Economy Corner could be helping keep a new neighbor from Africa warm. At Christmas time, many generous Wichitans bought gifts for individual refugee families.

Grace’s Economy Corner team partnered with our refugee team to sponsor a family, providing them a set of lovely china dishes and gifts for each child.

Then, some of Grace’s refugee team members joined more volunteers from other churches and groups to wrap the gifts. Several IRC offices became wrapping centers full of enthusiastic youth and adults who wrapped each family’s gifts – lots of warm hats and gloves, art supplies, games, toys and more, in bright papers  – and tucked them back into individual family bags for delivery later.

Are you a quilter?  Are you interested in making quilts to donate?  The Mission Distribution Team designated funds to help pay for quilting supplies.  Initially the quilts will go to the International Rescue Committee for new refugee families in Wichita.  In time the quilts might go to other organizations.  If you’re interested in participating in this project contact Esther Cummins, 295-3100, or Catherine Neelly Burton, 684-5215.
