This Sunday is Pentecost!  On this day we celebrate the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. The text in Acts 2 says that as the people gathered the Spirit first made its presence known in “a sound like the rush of a violent wind…”

As we celebrate Pentecost in our homes this year you are encouraged to come by the church and get a pinwheel. We have 50 of these, and we hope they serve to remind you of the movement of the Holy Spirit.  About half of our pinwheels are on the church lawn.  Feel free to take one of those, or come inside and pick one up from a vase at the entrance by the sanctuary.

Pentecost

Dear Grace Community,

In the beginning…In September we began reading through the Bible together with the story of creation.  Each week this year we journeyed deeper into our holy book.  We didn’t read it all, but we read a lot, and for the first time since I’ve been here, we focused on the big story of scripture.  Many in the congregation read during the week and kept up with the stories we missed on Sundays.

We are almost to the end of our nine months.  We finish on May 31 with the Pentecost story.  I’d love to hear from you about your experience in worship and with home reading.  Did you keep up with the weekly readings?  If so, what was that like for you?  Was the worship experience any different for you this year as followed the arc of scripture?

We gather again for online worship this Sunday.  We’re excited to have Amy Baumgartner preach.  The church office is closed on Monday for Memorial Day, but we are available in an emergency.

Let us know how you are.  Email the church staff or call us to check in and share.  We miss you and pray for you.

In Christ,
Catherine

  • Every two seconds someone in the US needs blood.
  • One pint of blood (the approximate amount given in a donation) can be used to help up to three people.
  • About 1/3 of the US population is eligible to give blood.
  • Five million patients in the US need blood every year.

On June 7, we host a Red Cross Blood drive at Grace from 8 am – 1 pm.  Sign up to donate on Sundays by calling the Grace office – 684-5215, or by going here:  https://www.redcrossblood.org/give.html/donation-time

You may use the “rapid pass” and save time on the day of your donation. Go to RapidPass to finish the pre-donation reading and health history questionnaire online before coming to your appointment.

Our March drive was successful, and we hope to match our efforts this time!

Dear Grace Community,

This is hard, right? I know I’m not the only one who thinks so.  It’s hard to have our lives disrupted.  It’s hard to know that people we love and care about are at risk of contracting and suffering from Covid-19.  It’s hard to not know what the future holds, not that we ever did, but we thought we did.

Let me remind you of the five words I asked you to learn last Sunday during Facebook live worship.  “I am with you always,” Jesus says in Matthew 28:20. This is hard, and Jesus is with us.

Amidst what is hard, there is great value in connecting with one another, even if it is by technology.  Below are a lot of opportunities for you for worship and connection.  If you need help navigating any of this, contact us, 316-684-5215.  I’m grateful that there are ways we can connect, and I pray for you daily.  I encourage you to reach out to one another.  Pick up the phone and reconnect.  Check in on someone when they cross your mind.  Pray for each other.

In Christ,
Catherine
