From the Pastor’s Desk

Dear Grace Community,

We give thanks for 30 years of Jacob’s Learning Ladder.  For 30 years children and families have come to Grace for education, care, encouragement, and growth. Over 30 years ago Grace members Merodee Grannis and Nancy Morrow began to dream about Jacob’s. In time their dream became a reality, and Jacob’s has flourished under their leadership.  It has also changed significantly. What began as a part-time pre-school has grown into a full time daycare and pre-school.

We are grateful for the ways Merodee and Nancy have led so faithfully, and we now prepare for a big transition. Merodee retires this May.

How do we replace the person who co-founded and led this incredible ministry for 30 years?  First, we adjust our expectations.  There’s no way to replace Merodee (or Nancy). There’s no way to find someone who has Merodee’s love and depth of knowledge for Jacob’s. However, there are people who are gifted in leading childcare centers, and we are excited about finding the next leader for Jacob’s.

This fall a task force formed to look at Jacob’s and to determine what we need to do to prepare for a search. The task force consisted of Catherine Neelly Burton, Martin Burch, Nancy Morrow, Pam Head, Jim Remsberg, and Brian White.  We presented updated job descriptions for the Director and Assistant Director positions to the Session in February.

A search team is looking for a new director.  If you know of someone interested in leading this incredible ministry, have them apply.  Please pray for us in this process.

In Christ,

Catherine

Cuba and Colorado Mission Presentations: April 7 at 2 pm

In February, three members of our congregation, Darcy Eads, Pam Head, and Capri Zimmerman, traveled to Cuba with the Presbytery of Southern Kansas. They spent a week visiting with and worshiping with Cuban Presbyterians.  In March, a group of college-aged young adults and leaders traveled to Denver to serve with Urban Mission.

On April 7, you get to hear from both of these groups. Join us from 2-3 pm in the Grace Parlor for presentations and dessert.

Super Senior Party: March 23

Each year the Deacons host a ‘Super Senior’ party for all in the Grace community who are 85 and older.  This year our event is on March 23.  We gather at noon for lunch in the Great Room.

We’re excited to welcome a brass quintet from the Wichita Symphony as our entertainment.  The deacons invite Super Seniors to come in sports attire.  Our theme is March Madness as the event falls during basketball tournament time.  Invitations are mailed soon.  If you are a Super Senior and do not receive an invitation, please let us know.  RSVP to Catherine Neelly Burton, catherine@mygpc.org or 684-5215.\

Morning Worship

Bus Tickets and Morning Worship: March 15

Each month Grace distributes bus tickets to people in our community.  This happens on the 15th of the month, or if the 15th is on a weekend we meet the Friday before.  Volunteers and those receiving tickets begin to gather around 6:30 am in the Grace Alcove. Guests are greeted with smiles, coffee, water, and a place to sit. Tickets are distributed at 7:50 am.

We can always use volunteers to help with set-up, clean-up, and ticket distribution.  Want to help?  Contact Kirk Anderson, kirk@mygpc.org or 684-5215.
