oldAre you interested in an in-depth Bible Study?  This fall Pastor Catherine Neelly Burton invites you to join her for “Invitation to the Old Testament.”  This is nine-week overview of the Old Testament.  It is part of the Disciple Curriculum and is like the “Invitation to Psalms” that was offered in 2016 and “Invitation to John” in 2018.  It is a study that emphasizes knowledge and faith formation.

Participants who engage in this study gain knowledge and confidence about the Bible. This Bible study requires a high commitment and won’t be for everyone. The commitment is a weekly class of one hour and fifteen minutes and a couple of hours of homework a week.  We won’t read all of the Old Testament in class, but we will read a lot.  It is fine to miss a class on occasion, but you need to make at least 75% of the classes.

Materials for the class are a study Bible and study guide.  The guides may be purchased at Grace for $15.  A kindle version of the book is available through Amazon.

The classes meet on Tuesdays at 10 am or Wednesdays at 6 pm.  Classes begin the week of September 8 with an overview session. Sign-ups begin in early August.  Look for more information on a bulletin board at church, in Grace this Week, or by calling Catherine, 684-5215. Childcare is available for class upon request.

  • Every two seconds someone in the US needs blood.
  • One pint of blood (the approximate amount given in a donation) can be used to help up to three people.
  • About 1/3 of the US population is eligible to give blood.
  • Five million patients in the US need blood every year.

On August 18 we host a Red Cross Blood drive at Grace from 8 am – 1 pm.  Sign up to donate on Sundays at Grace, by calling the office – 684-5215, or by going here: https://www.redcrossblood.org/give.html/drive-results?zipSponsor=67208

You may use the “rapid pass” and save time on the day of your donation.  Go to redcrossblood.org/RapidPass to finish the pre-donation reading and health history questionnaire online before coming to your appointment.

In March 2019, Darcy Eads, Pam Head, and Capri Zimmerman traveled from Grace to Cuba with a group from the Presbytery of Southern Kansas. They spent their time in Cuba in the Del Centro Presbytery learning about the life and mission of the congregations there. They visited different churches and met with and worshiped with Cuban Presbyterians.

Since their return, the Grace Session has approved the start of a Cuba Team to explore a future partnership with a Cuban Congregation. In June, Darcy Eads traveled to New Orleans for the Cuba Partners Network Gathering. There she learned more about what partnership with a congregation might look like.

On Sunday, August 11, we are excited to welcome Jo Ella Holman to Grace. Jo Ella serves as the PCUSA Mission Coordinator for Cuba and the Caribbean. She preaches at Grace at 9 am and 11 am. Come and hear what God is doing in Cuba.

Each month Grace distributes bus tickets to people in our community.  This happens on the 15th of the month, or if the 15th is on a weekend we meet the Friday before.  Volunteers and those receiving tickets begin to gather around 6:30 am in the Grace Alcove. Guests are greeted with smiles, coffee, water, and a place to sit. Tickets are distributed at 7:50 am.

We can always use volunteers to help with set-up, clean-up, and ticket distribution.  Want to help?  Contact Kirk Anderson, kirk@mygpc.org or 684-5215.
