onethousandgiftsphotobook-HiRes-255x300The book club meets the final Monday of the month on October 30 at 6:30 pm.  The book is One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp.  The October meeting is at Penny Hilton’s.  Penny lives at Country Park Residences, and the group meets in the complex Club House. Contact Penny for more information, 316-621-0390, or Capri Zimmerman at prizslp@gmail.com.

Each month Grace distributes bus tickets to people in our community.  This happens on the 15th of the month, or if the 15th is a weekend we meet the Friday before.  Volunteers and those receiving tickets begin to gather around 6:30 am in the Grace Alcove. Guests are greeted with smiles, coffee, water, and a place to sit. Tickets are distributed at 7:50 am.

We invite all guests to a brief worship service with communion in the Great Room at 7:35 am.

We can always use volunteers to help with set-up, clean-up, and ticket distribution.  Want to help?  Contact Kirk Anderson, kirk@mygpc.org or 684-5215.

On Sunday, October 1, we receive the PCUSA Peace and Global Witness offering.

Twenty-five percent of this offering stays in Wichita for the International Rescue Committee.  Twenty-five percent goes to our presbytery for peace and global witness efforts, and 50% goes to the national church.

National PCUSA peace and global witness initiatives include big projects such as supporting missionaries in South Sudan and smaller projects like providing bicycles for pastors in rural African countries so that they may commute to their churches and visit parishioners.

Sunday, October 8, is the Prairie Fire Marathon and Half Marathon.  For the fifth year in a row, runners race past Grace starting around 8 am. We are on the lawn to cheer for them as they zoom down Douglas. Cheering, waving, and clapping for the runners is joyful, particularly when you can see the difference the encouragement makes for a person.  Bring a chair or plan to stand.

Our presence on the lawn is an important witness to the community. The 9 am service worships informally on the lawn. At 11 am. we gather in the sanctuary for worship.  Don’t miss this fun Sunday!

Each month on the first Sunday you’re encouraged to take home a re-usable yellow grocery bag, put some non-perishable items in it, and bring it back the next week, or soon thereafter.  Our contributions this month go the Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church food pantry.  Consider bringing cereal or canned fruit.
