We are halfway through our current Grace Confirmation class. Since late October, six confirmands have had weekly discussion topics that have provided great conversation and questions. Topics included trust in God, who is Jesus, discipleship, prayer and its importance, grace and sin, the history of the church and Grace Presbyterian, what is Presbyterianism and the PCUSA, worship, and the sacraments. The confirmands served with First Presbyterian and their homeless breakfast and spent time reading the book of Matthew.  They also were privileged to worship with Congregation Emanu-El at their Shabbat service and learn from Rabbi Michael Davis.

Now that we are in the new year, we participate in worship with St. George Orthodox Christian Cathedral, and possibly visit another church.  We look at what it means to view the world through the verses of Matthew 25, how the confirmands can be change in the world, deal with the life, death, and resurrection of Christ, and what it means to them. Also, we learn where the Holy Spirit and the confirmands’ spiritual gifts are needed. They study the Apostles’ Creed, consider how they imagine God, and put down their faith in a faith statement.  From there, they get the opportunity to make their decision to join the church.  If they answer yes, the confirmands meet with the Session and, on March 26, confess their faith to God and join the church.

It has been a great journey for all of us involved in this class of amazing young adults.  Please pray for them and for God to be present in their lives every day.   – Kirk Anderson

Deck the Halls: Saturday, December 3

Join us for a time of fun and preparation. We are decorating the Church, sharing lunch, baking and delivering cookies, and doing a family craft. You can come for all or any part of the day. Below is the schedule and some details. For those of you who might need childcare, it will be available on request. Please state next to your name that you want childcare.

  • 9:00 am—11:30 am: We are hanging decorations and preparing the entire building for the Christmas season. Our Arts Team will be directing this process. A family craft session is planned during this time making ornaments for our congregation’s tree.
  • 11:30 am—12:30 pm: Crockpot lunch. Bring either soup or chili to share. We will have outlets to keep the food in your crock pot warm.
  • 11:00—12:30 pm: Bake cookies to deliver to various agencies around our neighborhood (fire/police/first responders/etc.). Feel free to bring a dozen baked cookies to share in our delivery.
