Each month on the first Sunday you’re encouraged to take home a re-usable yellow grocery bag, put some non-perishable items in it, and bring it back the next week, or soon thereafter. In June our contributions go to the Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church food pantry. All non-perishable food items are welcome, or consider bringing toilet paper.
In April we completed our 20th year of the Grace Tutoring Ministry. This ministry partners adults with students from Hyde Elementary School to work on reading skills. A staff member from Hyde walks the children over on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Here they are greeted with a snack and friendly faces. Then, each child spends 45 minutes to an hour reading with an adult. Again this year our students made incredible strides in their reading.
Each year we evaluate the ministry and consider its future. We know that children benefit from this program and that adult volunteers do, too. What we don’t know is if we have enough volunteers to make the program work for another year. Most years we look to recruit two-four new tutors. This year we need five-seven.

It is not a requirement that tutors be part of Grace, so if you have a friend in the community who might be interested, send them our way.
It’s time to say ‘Thank you!’ Thank you for generously giving your time at Grace. Each spring we celebrate Grace Volunteers with a dinner. The church provides meat, and we ask you to bring a side or dessert to share. Dinner is at 6 pm on Wednesday, May 30. There is no formal program, but there are door prizes.
Whether you volunteer regularly or on occasion, the ministries of the church would not happen without you. If you’ve ever volunteered at Grace (even one time) you are invited.
Join us for lunch in the Great Room on Sunday, May 20, following the 11 am worship service. Over lunch we celebrate Donna Hetrick’s ministry with and among us.
Donna and Bill move to Kansas City this summer. May 20 is not Donna’s last day with us, but it’s the last Sunday before Memorial Day Weekend when people begin to scatter.
Lunch is $8.50 for adults, $3 for children under 12, and free for children under 3. There is a family max of $23.

On Sunday, May 20, we receive the PCUSA Pentecost Offering. The Pentecost Offering goes to programs for children at risk, youth, and young adults. Sixty percent of what we receive goes to the PCUSA for the work our national church does with these groups. Forty percent of the offering stays at Grace.
This year our mission team designated our 40% to go for Jacob’s Learning Ladder scholarships. Jacob’s Learning Ladder currently serves 92 children and their families. Scholarship money is used for different purposes. Sometimes a family goes through a short-term crisis and needs temporary help with tuition, and sometimes we have families that need long-term help. Scholarship funds mean that these families are able to have their children in our high-quality care and program.

We worship in person and online. Worship is at 9 am and 11 am. The 9 am service is in the Great Room, and the 11 am service is in the Sanctuary.
