It’s time for our monthly Laundry Love! This is when we go to College Town Laundry at 3223 E 17th St, by the WSU Campus, and pay for laundry for people. This is a mission of our evangelism team, and we’d love for you to join us. We’ll be there from 2:30 – 5:30 pm on Sunday, October 9.  Want to know more? Contact Catherine Neelly Burton in the church office, 684-5215.

October 2

This is World Communion Sunday. We celebrate the Lord’s Supper at both services this day. We continue in our “Faith is a Verb” series, and our word for the day is Plant.  Catherine Neelly Burton preaches from Jeremiah 29:1, 4-7. Along with churches throughout the PCUSA, we receive the Peace and Global Witness offering this day.  Seventy-five percent of this offering goes to peacemaking efforts of the PCUSA.  Twenty-five percent stays here and goes to support our Numana food packing event on October 16.

October 9

This is Marathon Sunday. The 9 am service meets on the front lawn for informal worship.  The 11 am    service meets in the sanctuary and is led musically by Janet Rhoads’ bluegrass band.  The verb for the day is Take, and Catherine Neelly Burton preaches from John 10:1-10.

October 16

Catherine Neelly Burton preaches at both services. The scripture for the day is Matthew 5:1-11. Our verb is Bless.

October 23

Catherine Neelly Burton preaches this Sunday.  The verb for the day is Break, and the scripture comes from Psalm 22.

October 30 Dr. Martin Burch preaches this Sunday.  The verb for the day is Give

9 am           Worship in the Great Room

10 am         Education and Fellowship

11 am         Worship in the Sanctuary

Worship at 9 am is in the Great Room and is led musically by our band.  The style is less formal than the 11:00 service.  The 11:00 service is in the Sanctuary and is led musically by our choirs.  The style is more traditional.

Here’s where you will find education and fellowship opportunities in October.  There is NO Sunday School on Sunday October 9. Join the congregation on the front lawn to cheer for the Prairie Fire Marathon runners.

 Adults

October 2 is the final Sunday of the first Adult Sunday School Series of the fall.  Classes include: Raising Kids with Love and Logic in Room 101; Sacred Art and History in the Chapel; and God Calls Us All: Passion and Action in Room 103.

There is no Sunday School on October 9.  Everyone is encouraged to cheer for the marathon runners from our front lawn that morning.

We start a new Adult Sunday School Series on Sunday, October 16.  These are the classes:

  • “Listening for God” in Room 101
  • Video Series in Room 103
  • Steamers Class in Room 209

Sunday, October 9, is the Prairie Fire Marathon and Half Marathon.

For the fourth year in a row runners race past Grace starting around 8 am. We’ll be on the lawn to cheer for them as they zoom down Douglas.

Cheering, waving, and clapping for the runners is joyful, particularly when you can see the difference the encouragement makes for a person. Bring a chair or plan to stand. Our presence on the lawn is an important witness to the community.

The 9 am service worships informally on the lawn. At 11, we gather in the sanctuary for worship. Our music for the day is a bluegrass band. Don’t miss this fun Sunday!
