Grace is excited to host Watermark Books and author, Geraldine Brooks, on Wednesday, October 5, at 6:30 pm.  Brooks’ latest book is The Secret Chord.

She is the author of four novels including the Pulitzer Prize winning March.  Her novel, Caleb’s Crossing, won the New England Book Award for fiction and the Christianity Today Book Award.

When we host Watermark, we enjoy the opportunity to offer hospitality to the community.

Can you volunteer? We need greeters for the doors and people to help serve cookies and coffee. Contact Catherine Neelly Burton, 684-5215, to volunteer.

This event is free and open to the public, so come and bring a friend.

Grace is answering Christ’s call to ‘feed his sheep.’  On October 16, we host a Numana Food Packing event from 2-4 pm.

Numana (numanainc.com) is based out of El Dorado, KS. They bring pounds and pounds of dried beans and rice to Grace that day, and we package the food into bags to be shipped to a ministry in Haiti that works with children.

The event is open to everyone five years and older. There is a nursery for younger children. If you want to participate, we need you to register.  This helps us make sure we have the right amount of work for our volunteers.

We also have registration available on Sunday mornings September 25, October 2 and October 9.

Everyone who volunteers is asked to contribute $1.80.  This is the cost of one bag of food or six meals. The event costs much more than this, and  Grace has allocated mission money for this purpose. If you would like to contribute more than $1.80, you are welcome to do so.

In order to make this event a success, we need lots of help. We hope to have 70 volunteers serve on October 16. In addition we need a dozen people to come early and stay late for set-up and clean-up. If you can give extra hours, contact Catherine Neelly Burton, 684-5215, Catherine@mygpc.org

This event is a wonderful opportunity to introduce someone to Grace. Do you have a friend, neighbor, or family member who you think might connect with God here? Invite them!

Would you enjoy learning new things? Do you have time available during the day? Do you like to explore different ideas in a safe and challenging environment? Then join the Wednesday Afternoon Video Discussion Class led by Martin Burch at Grace every Wednesday at 2 pm in Room 208.

The class meets to explore various aspects of Christianity and our place in the world.

Class begins with a 12 – 20 minute video presentation followed by group discussion and exploration.

The video series are usually 4 – 8 weeks long and range from church history to theological ideas to examinations of spiritual disciplines to Bible studies to contemporary issues from a Christian perspective to examinations of other religions.

The video presenters come from many traditions and varied perspectives. Join us any Wednesday afternoon at 2 pm in Room 208 for coffee and cookies, stimulating discussions and enjoyable company!

Grace is hosting three area food trucks on Thursday, October 6, from 5:30 – 7 pm.  Trucks are set up in the church’s east parking lot.  Buy your dinner, sit down, and enjoy fellowship and food. Bring a friend!

Faith is a Verb.  That’s our worship theme for the fall.  What does it mean?

Each Sunday this fall we focus on a different aspect of discipleship. Discipleship is active. Following Christ is something we do.

If we’re not intentional, it is easy to stop living lives of discipleship, not because we don’t want to but because we get busy with other things.

Each Sunday this fall focuses on a word, a way to do discipleship.  During September, we look at verbs ‘practice,’ ‘follow,’ and ‘wrestle,’ and how they relate to the ways we ‘do’ and live our faith.

In October, we start with the word ‘plant.’  Then we spend five weeks looking at verbs from the Lord’s Supper: take, bless, break, give, and feast.  Our series concludes with the word ‘worship’ and finally ‘stop’ on the Sunday before Advent.

Come to worship this fall ready to engage with scripture and ready to examine your life for the ways you are, or could be, living out your faith.
